English screenwriter and filmmaker Cary Rajinder Sawhney studied photography, film and television at the University of Westminster and completed a directing course at Metropolitan Film School. Cary wrote and directed three short films, including ‘Looking for You’ which was screened by twelve film festivals, and ‘Khaana’ which won two coveted US awards and screened at nineteen film festivals. Cary is one of England’s leading Asian film festival programme directors. For seven years, he was Head of Diversity at the British Film Institute where he was festival director of ImagineAsia – England’s largest South Asian festival. Nowadays, he organises various well-known film festivals such as the London Indian Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival. He is a member of BAFTA and The Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
